Planning the camping menus.

Only 12 more days till our first camp!

Today the students worked in pairs to plan what food they would need for the trip.  They worked out they would need afternoon snack, supper, breakfast, morning snack. We talked about what foods would be light weight to carry and easy to cook. We will have one trangia stove between two children and each trangia stove has a large cooking pot,  a small cooking pot and a frying pan.  Each tent pair will have one trangia stove.

The children agreed what to eat as a tent group and then assigned particular children to bring particular items for their whole group.

A lot of debate went into making wise choices and figuring out who would bring what… Menu planning is not as simple as it seems!

It was hard planning what to eat because we didn’t want to eat the same thing.

Sometimes it can take quite a bit of discussion before you reach a consensus. It’s nice if you can agree on something, so you can share the responsibility and the weight load! For example, when Clair and I go camping, often one of us will bring the carbs (usually rice or pasta) and the other brings the sauce. Sometimes one of us brings supper and the other brings breakfast.
