All About Me Poster

Posted August 31, 2011 By jzraskin@gmail.com

This week’s Student Update is from Alona, in her words…

“In 2R we did All About Me posters. I draw me and a monkey. I draw what do I like, like I like monkey, I love my family, I like water slide, I like ice cream, I love Amber, I like playing with my friend, I like to play 3D DS, I like to play Pokemon card, I like gymnastics and swimming. That’s it!”

Why do you think we made these posters?

“Because I think we were learning about ourselves, or me… I don’t know! If we want to know each other we can look at the all about me poster.”

Exploring Math Tools

Posted August 30, 2011 By jzraskin@gmail.com

Near the beginning of the year we always take time to really explore the tools of our classroom. Before students can be expected to use math tools and manipulatives for specific tasks, they need time to explore, experiment and play with them freely. This activity can teach me a lot about their approach to mathematical processes, and is a ton of fun for the class!

Reflections on Second Grade

Posted June 17, 2011 By jzraskin@gmail.com

What a year it’s been. I feel so privileged to have worked, learned and played in this little class community for a year. On our final day of second grade, students reflected on their moments of pride and success in second grade and their hopes for next year. In the meantime, have a happy, healthy, playful and adventurous summer 2R, you’ve earned it! Much love, Mr. Raskin

Malte’s Cheer Words

Posted May 10, 2011 By jzraskin@gmail.com

One of the ways to study our spelling this week is “Cheer words”.

Malte recorded his practice.

Here is his comment about the video;

“It was first time I did this game, so I thought I cannot do this

because I was nervous but when I was up to the 5th number I thought it was pretty fun.”

On the computer we used photo booth to take take photos of us signing our words. Our words this week were un words so if you put in front of some words it makes them the opposite”
