Comics About our Tooth Experiment

Posted September 28, 2011 By jzraskin@gmail.com

Today’s post is from Yo, in her words!

First when we played I was the dentist and I was a little shy. I looked at Braden’s tooth and I draw the colour. Next Braden was the dentist and I eat a tablet. At first I thought it was so yucky but it was so sweet.

How were your teeth?

No! I have only one plaque!

What about the comic?

I make everyone know what the dentist experiment was. I tell the story of doing the dentist and doing the patient. I was so happy!

Even though we’re not at school today, we still want to see how healthy we are, so you should still complete today’s page in your health diary. Don’t forget to use lots of detail You’ll have to be creative to think of ways to have exercise when you’re indoors too! We’ll look at each others diaries tomorrow.

2) Mathletics
Wednesday is our Mathletics day, and now you have extra time to play! If you’ve finished all the assigned tasks, you can play Rainforest Maths, My Games, Problem Solving, Mathletics Live or any of the other parts of Mathletics we’ve looked at.

Posted September 20, 2011 By jzraskin@gmail.com

As part of our study of how leading a balanced lifestyle helps us stay healthy, 2R had dentists in to visit the class. Today, we had a chance to be dentists ourselves! We learned all about plaque and tartar, and then got a chance to see how effective our own teeth cleaning was! Blue on our teeth means plaque! Don’t forget to floss!

Watch our video and turn up the sound!

Nutrition and Balance

Posted September 16, 2011 By jzraskin@gmail.com

Today in PE we learned about the importance of balance in play and rest, as well as learning about the different food groups. To learn about the different food groups and how each group helps the body, students rotated around 6 stations. At each station students had a task to complete, each task helped students to learn about food groups and helped to improve their skills in Benchball. Below are some pictures from today’s PE lesson.

Dentists coming !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted September 14, 2011 By jzraskin@gmail.com

This is Louis talking about dentists coming.

After morning recess, some special dentist visitors came to our class to talk about what happens when you leave plaque. Germs will be biting your teeth. We also did an experiment to see which drink is sweeter. Cup A was really sweet and taste strange, and cup B taste like lemon a bit. They put 12 sticks of sugar in a water bottle, then shook it and pour it into the cups with the letter A. Them everyone tried one of the cups out. Then they put yellow food color and magic powder, and shook it again. Then, they poured it into the cups with the letter B. Then, everyone tried one of the cups out. The answer of which drink was sweeter was cup A!!!!!

Is my snack healthy?

Posted September 12, 2011 By jzraskin@gmail.com

2R students started this week by showing each other the snacks they’d brought from home, or bought in the canteen. Then, we asked ourselves two questions:

  • Is my snack healthy, unhealthy, mixed? Why?
  • How will I feel after eating my snack? Why?

Team Time: Insect Hunters!

Posted September 5, 2011 By jzraskin@gmail.com

Team Time is something special. For the final period each Friday each second grade teacher offers a different activity to students. Students can choose where they want to go, with whom, and to do what. Many students had been exploring the green spaces of the playground and catching insects during recess times so, on September 2, for Team Time, Ms Brown and I offered second graders a chance to grab cameras, notebooks, insect guides, empty jars and magnifying glasses and go insect hunting. We found some amazing things and had a ton of fun!
