Typhoon Day – Home Learning!

Posted September 21, 2011 By jzraskin@gmail.com

Dear 2R,

What a surprise! In the middle of our short week, we will miss another day together! I hope you stay safe and dry in your homes. While you’re at home today, I have a few, fun typhoon day jobs for you!

1) Your Health Diary
Even though we’re not at school today, we still want to see how healthy we are, so you should still complete today’s page in your health diary. Don’t forget to use lots of detail You’ll have to be creative to think of ways to have exercise when you’re indoors too! We’ll look at each others diaries tomorrow.

2) Mathletics
Wednesday is our Mathletics day, and now you have extra time to play! If you’ve finished all the assigned tasks, you can play Rainforest Maths, My Games, Problem Solving, Mathletics Live or any of the other parts of Mathletics we’ve looked at.

3) Reading
I’m looking forward to reading my book today, and I hope you enjoy yours too! Don’t forget to record today’s reading in your Reading Log.

4) New Video on the Blog
You’re a movie star! I made a cool 2R movie about being dentists yesterday, and it’s up on the blog! You can watch the movie and write a comment today.
How was playing dentist and patient for you?
What did you learn about how clean your teeth are?
To write a comment click on the word “Comment” on the grey bar under the movie, fill in all the boxes, write the secret word and click “Submit Comment”. Don’t forget to add your first name, so we know who’s writing! It will ask you to add an email address too. You can use your parent’s, mine (raskinj@yis.ac.jp) or your own if you have one!

Have fun, stay dry, stay healthy and please write me an email if you have any questions!

See you tomorrow,

Jamie Raskin

Is my snack healthy?

Posted September 12, 2011 By jzraskin@gmail.com

2R students started this week by showing each other the snacks they’d brought from home, or bought in the canteen. Then, we asked ourselves two questions:

  • Is my snack healthy, unhealthy, mixed? Why?
  • How will I feel after eating my snack? Why?

2R Community Reading, Episode #1

Posted September 8, 2011 By jzraskin@gmail.com

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

What a lovely way to start our day! The 2R class and I were so touched and pleased by the support showed by our community this morning, during our first weekly Community Reading session. I knew it was going to be good when I saw the large number of parents waiting on the balcony to join us, and then the arrival of Mr. MacDonald, Mr. Stanworth and the entirety of Mr. Goddard’s fifth grade class completed the picture beautifully. There were so many generous community members giving their time to read with our class that we ran out of second grade partners!

We discussed it afterwards and the class really appreciated your support, and had a great time. Please continue to join us in the coming weeks! Enjoy the slideshow of images below and remember, you’re invited to join us any and every Thursday, from 8:20 to around 8:45. See you next time!

Malte’s Cheer Words

Posted May 10, 2011 By jzraskin@gmail.com

One of the ways to study our spelling this week is “Cheer words”.

Malte recorded his practice.

Here is his comment about the video;

“It was first time I did this game, so I thought I cannot do this

because I was nervous but when I was up to the 5th number I thought it was pretty fun.”
